Working on independent research as an honors student at Oberlin College. The research pertains to examining the effect that learning systems thinking has on pro-environmental behavior. Further, the research examines the role of the domain in which systems thinking learning occurs. Duties on the research project include everything from literature review, study design, data collection, to data analysis.

National Science Foundation Grant on Systems Thinking

Worked as research coordinator for professors Cindy Frantz and Paul Thibodeau at Oberlin College with funding through the National Science Foundation. The research pertained to manipulating systems thinking through use of metaphors (both linguistic and visual), ultimately with the goal of promoting conservation friendly behavior. The grant covered several studies; among which are studies looking at the effect of different metaphors of the earth on systems thinking and the effect of pro-environmental signage on systems thinking. Duties in the lab include study design, data collection, online survey development, and data analysis.

Rapport-Aware Peer Tutor Project at Carnegie Mellon University’s ArticuLab

Participated in research as part of Oberlin College’s winter term program. Research pertained to the effect of rapport on dyadic peer tutoring, ultimately working towards building a model effective of dyadic peer tutoring to be used in ArticuLab’s socially-aware artificial intelligence peer tutor. Independently ran a study of the effect of peer praise on learning gains. This project was supervised by Justine Cassell and Michael Madaio.

Assisted graduate students in Jennifer Crocker’s lab with a multitude of research projects, largely focusing on using social psychology to study racism—specifically looking into perceptions of subtle vs. blatant racism and collaborating on creating a new measure for assessing motivations of those with privileged identities to avoid prejudiced behavior.
